BoatKit Privacy Policy

This policy explains how BoatKit collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website, applications, cloud monitoring services, and connected account integrations.

Last Updated

Scope

This policy applies to BoatKit websites, apps, devices, cloud services, alerts, and integrations, including any Garmin account or device data you choose to connect to BoatKit. In this policy, "BoatKit," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the BoatKit service.

Information We Collect

  • Account and contact information: name, email address, authentication details, support requests, and communication preferences.
  • Connected account information: information made available when you authorize a third-party integration, such as Garmin account identifiers, device identifiers, activity data, or other data you permit that provider to share with BoatKit.
  • Boat and device data: onboard sensor readings, NMEA 2000 data, AIS data, anchor alarm status, device status, configuration settings, diagnostics, and similar operational data.
  • Location and navigation data: boat position, track history, geofence status, chart context, route-related data, and location-derived alerts when those features are enabled.
  • Usage and technical data: log data, IP address, browser or device type, app version, timestamps, error reports, and performance data.

How We Use Information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve BoatKit products and services.
  • Display charts, sensor data, AIS targets, gauges, location, geofence, and anchor alarm information.
  • Deliver remote monitoring, notifications, text alerts, diagnostics, support, and account administration.
  • Authenticate users, protect accounts, prevent misuse, troubleshoot issues, and secure our services.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights and policies.

Garmin and Other Connected Services

If you authorize BoatKit to connect with Garmin or another third-party service, BoatKit will request and use only the data needed to provide the features you enable. Data submitted to BoatKit through a connected integration is submitted to BoatKit and is handled under this policy, not by Garmin or the other third-party provider. Those providers are not responsible for BoatKit's handling of that data.

You can revoke BoatKit's access through the connected provider's account settings or through BoatKit settings when available. After access is revoked, BoatKit will stop collecting new data from that provider, but we may retain previously collected data as described in this policy unless you request deletion.

How We Share Information

  • Service providers: vendors that help us host, store, monitor, secure, message, analyze, or support the service.
  • Connected services: third-party services you choose to connect, but only as needed to provide the integration or as you direct.
  • Legal, safety, and security reasons: when required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate misuse, or to respond to lawful requests.
  • Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

We do not sell personal information and we do not use Garmin data or location data for advertising.

Retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide BoatKit, maintain security, support users, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve the service. Retention periods may vary by data type and feature. You may request deletion of your account or personal information by contacting us.

Your Choices

  • You can choose not to provide certain information, though some BoatKit features may not work without it.
  • You can disable connected integrations or revoke third-party access through the provider's settings.
  • You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of personal information, subject to legal and technical limits.
  • You can opt out of non-essential communications. We may still send service, security, or account messages.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

BoatKit is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.
