Windy + BoatKit

BoatKit turns supported onboard wind and navigation sources into a direct Windy personal weather station feed. Every observation uses BoatKit’s calculated true wind—speed, the interval’s strongest sampled true wind as gust, and direction referenced to true north. Apparent wind is never substituted just to keep a feed alive.

Because Windy stores position on the station rather than on each observation, BoatKit also keeps the station metadata with the vessel. After roughly 300 meters of movement it reads the complete station record, preserves its station and operator details, updates latitude and longitude, and only then publishes the next reading. That safety boundary avoids attaching live vessel weather to a stale harbor or anchorage position.

Current, deliberately bounded weather

BoatKit sends an observation a little more than every five minutes, matching Windy’s current upload limit. An administrator can optionally add one enabled outside-air temperature source and one atmospheric-pressure source. Stale wind, heading, speed, or trusted GPS-position data pauses publishing instead of producing a misleading report.

This is a live, one-way weather path. It does not send a vessel track, import Windy forecasts, or queue old observations through an Internet outage. Publishing resumes with current conditions after connectivity returns. The station password and API key remain write-only device secrets and are excluded from portable backups.

For station creation, credentials, sensor selection, success checks, moving-station behavior, and troubleshooting, see the BoatKit Windy setup guide.
