What you need

Tablet

A tablet can use the integration when it can reach the supported Icom radio over the vessel network. Continuous service and audio availability are limited when the app is suspended.

Dedicated BoatKit device

A dedicated device can maintain the Icom network session and make supported radio state, controls, and audio paths available to BoatKit displays.

Hardware and network

  • A compatible Icom marine radio powered on and connected to the vessel network
  • BoatKit network access to discover and register as a phone client

Account or license

No Icom cloud account is used. Transmit and other controls require BoatKit administrator access and remain subject to radio licensing and operating rules.

BoatKit’s Icom adapter registers as a supported phone client on the vessel network and translates the device-specific session into a common VHF interface. Routine state can include channel and channel group, squelch, transmit power, watch modes, and scanning, while detailed identity and diagnostics remain available in the integration area.

For compatible radios, the connection also carries audio and push-to-talk rather than stopping at passive status. This allows a purpose-built communications view to participate in radio operation from a BoatKit display.

Transmit and other controls require administrator access and remain subject to radio licensing, operating rules, and an attentive operator. Compatibility depends on the Icom model and firmware and should be confirmed before installation; BoatKit is not affiliated with or endorsed by Icom.
